Story Behind The Song
Released in 1988, “Boys (Summertime Love)” was the breakthrough single by Italian singer Sabrina and became one of the most recognisable European pop hits of the late 1980s. Written by Roberto Rossi, Claudio Cecchetto, Matteo Bonsanto and Malcolm Charlton, and produced by Claudio Cecchetto, the song combined upbeat dance-pop with a catchy summer melody and a playful, flirtatious lyric. Its infectious chorus and carefree atmosphere made it a natural fit for holiday playlists and dancefloors.
The song celebrates the excitement of summer romance, with Sabrina singing about attraction, desire and the carefree atmosphere of warm-weather relationships. Her bright, energetic vocal performance is supported by a driving electronic rhythm, prominent synthesiser melodies and layered backing vocals. The polished production captures the glossy European dance-pop sound of the period, while the repetitive chorus gives the track an instantly memorable quality. Its straightforward structure and infectious hook helped it cross language and cultural boundaries, making Sabrina a familiar name across Europe.
The accompanying music video became an important part of the song’s success, with Sabrina performing around a swimming pool in an image that quickly became one of the most recognisable visuals of 1980s pop. “Boys (Summertime Love)” remains closely associated with the era’s carefree summer culture and continues to appear on retro dance and 1980s compilations. Today, it is remembered as a quintessential late-1980s European pop hit, celebrated for its catchy melody, upbeat production and unmistakable sense of summer fun.
The song peaked at No. 03 on the UK charts on 25th June 1988.

SONG LYRICS
Boys, bo-bo-boys
Boys, boys, boys
Boys, boys, boys
Boys, boys, boys
Boys, boys, boys
Sun shines down, so come to town
Set your body free
Hold me tight, my love tonight
Tell me you believe
Everybody, summertime love
You’ll remember me
Everybody, summertime love
Be my lover, be my baby
Boys, boys, boys, I’m lookin’ for a good time
Boys, boys, boys, get ready for my love
Boys, boys, boys, I’m lookin’ for a good time
Boys, boys, boys, I’m ready for your love
Stay around, the sun goes down
Babe, I’m feelin’ right
Take a chance, a love romance
Have some fun tonight
Everybody, summertime love
You’ll remember me
Everybody, summertime love
Be my lover, be my baby
Boys, boys, boys, I’m lookin’ for a good time
Boys, boys, boys, get ready for my love
Boys, boys, boys, I’m lookin’ for a good time
Boys, boys, boys, I’m ready for your love
Boys and girls in the summertime love
Summertime love on the beach tonight
Say hey, say you, say me, say what?
Everybody’s gotta come
Don’t stop, don’t move
Just get your body in the groove
I said hey, I said who?
I said me, I said you gotta get in the groove
Boys, boys, boys
In the summertime love, in the summertime love
Boys, boys, boys
Let’s summertime roll, let’s summertime roll
Boys, boys, boys
In the summertime love, in the summertime love
Boys, boys, boys
Let’s summertime roll, let’s summertime roll
Everybody, summertime love
You’ll remember me
Everybody, summertime love
Be my lover, be my baby
Boys, boys, boys, I’m lookin’ for a good time
Boys, boys, boys, get ready for my love
Boys, boys, boys, I’m lookin’ for a good time
Boys, boys, boys, get ready for my love
Boys, boys, boys, I’m lookin’ for a good time
Boys, boys, boys, get ready for my love
