Altered ImagesAltered Images were a successful Scottish new wave and post-punk band formed in Glasgow in 1979. Fronted by the energetic, distinctive vocalist Clare Grogan, the group originally championed a dark, atmospheric sound that caught the attention of champion radio DJ John Peel. Pivoting toward a highly infectious, upbeat pop style, they achieved major commercial success with their 1981 breakthrough album, Happy Birthday. The title track became a massive international hit, peaking at number two in the UK. After yielding further sugary synth-pop hits like “I Could Be Happy” and “See Those Eyes”, the group disbanded in 1983.
