Dead Or Alive Dead Or Alive were an influential British dance-pop and Hi-NRG band formed in Liverpool in 1980. Fronted by the flamboyant and fiercely androgynous singer-songwriter Pete Burns, the group transitioned from early goth-punk origins into a mainstream pop powerhouse. They achieved massive global stardom with their 1984 synth masterpiece “You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)”, which hit number one in the UK in 1985 and became the first chart-topper for the legendary production trio Stock Aitken Waterman. Anchored by their Top 10 album, Youthquake, and US hits like “Brand New Lover”, the band sold over 50 million records worldwide before dissolving upon Burns’s death in 2016.
