Furniture Furniture were an eclectic British new wave and post-punk band formed in Ealing, London, in 1979. Fronted by singer-songwriter Jim Irvin, the group famously blended sophisticated pop melodies with jazz, blues, and dark cinematic textures. Their defining line-up featured Tim Whelan, Hamilton Lee, Sally Still, and Maya Gilder. After years of building a cult following, they achieved a major UK breakthrough in 1986 with the melancholic masterpiece “Brilliant Mind”, which peaked at number 21. Despite critical acclaim for their landmark album, The Wrong People, label liquidations and legal battles severely stifled their commercial momentum, leading to their eventual dissolution in 1991.
