GillanGillan was a prominent British hard rock band formed in London in 1978 by iconic former Deep Purple frontman Ian Gillan. Dissatisfied with the jazz-fusion direction of his previous outfit, the Ian Gillan Band, he established this new group to return to a lean, gritty rock sound.

The core lineup, featuring keyboardist Colin Towns and bassist John McCoy, achieved massive European and Japanese success. They became a driving force aligned with the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, releasing hit albums like Mr. Universe and Future Shock. Financial tensions and Ian joining Black Sabbath led to their dissolution in 1982.
