Orange Juice Orange Juice were an influential Scottish indie-pop band formed in Bearsden, Glasgow, in 1976. Originally called the Nu-Sonics, the group was fronted by singer-songwriter Edwyn Collins and served as the flagship act for the seminal indie label Postcard Records. Rejecting the aggressive masculinity of punk, they pioneered a romantic “jangle pop” sound that fused melodic guitars with disco and funk. Moving to Polydor, they achieved their definitive UK breakthrough in 1983 with the synth-driven smash “Rip It Up”, which reached number 8 on the UK Singles Chart. The band split in 1985, leaving a lasting legacy on British alternative music.
