The AssemblyThe Assembly were a short-lived British synth-pop project formed in 1983 by musical mastermind Vince Clarke following his departure from Yazoo. Partnering with producer Eric Radcliffe, Clarke’s vision was a collaborative group featuring a rotating cast of guest vocalists rather than a permanent lead singer. The project achieved instant commercial success with their debut single, “Never Never”, which featured the distinctive, soaring vocals of The Undertones’ frontman Feargal Sharkey. The track peaked at number four on the UK Singles Chart. Although highly successful, the project dissolved quickly as Clarke pivoted to form Erasure.
