The BelovedThe Beloved are an acclaimed British electronic and alternative dance group formed in Cambridge in 1983. Originally a four-piece post-punk outfit led by vocalist Jon Marsh, the band underwent a dramatic transformation in the late 1980s. Pivoting toward a lush, ambient house and acid house sound, they achieved commercial breakthrough with their 1989 hit single “The Sun Rising” and the club-centric album Happiness. Later reconstituted as a duo featuring Marsh’s wife Helena, they scored their definitive international hit in 1993 with the euphoric, chart-topping anthem “Sweet Harmony”, immortalised by its famously artistic music video.
