Story Behind The Song

Released in 1982, “Let’s Get It Up” was the lead single from AC/DC’s eighth studio album, For Those About To Rock (We Salute You). Written by Angus Young, Malcolm Young and Brian Johnson, and produced by Robert John “Mutt” Lange, the song continued the band’s remarkable momentum following the success of Back In Black. Combining thunderous guitar riffs, driving rhythms and a powerful chorus, it delivered the hard-hitting sound that had made AC/DC one of the world’s leading rock bands.

The song is an unapologetic celebration of good times, rock and roll and living life to the fullest. Brian Johnson’s unmistakable gravelly vocals bring energy and humour to the lyrics, while Angus and Malcolm Young’s trademark guitar interplay provides the relentless riffs that drive the song from beginning to end. Cliff Williams’ solid bass and Phil Rudd’s precise drumming create the band’s trademark powerhouse rhythm section, giving the track an irresistible momentum. The polished yet uncompromising production captures AC/DC at their most confident, balancing raw power with remarkable clarity.

Although often overshadowed by classics such as “Back In Black” and “You Shook Me All Night Long”, “Let’s Get It Up” remains a favourite among AC/DC fans and an important part of the band’s early Brian Johnson era. Today, it is recognised for its infectious energy, memorable guitar work and no-nonsense approach to hard rock. The song perfectly reflects AC/DC’s enduring philosophy of delivering straightforward, high-voltage rock music with honesty, power and unmistakable style.

The song peaked at No. 13 in the UK Singles Chart on 20th February 1982.

LYRICS

My, my, my

Loose lips sink ships
So come aboard for a pleasure trip
It’s high tide, so let’s ride
The moon is rising and so am I

I’m gonna get it up
Never gonna let it up
Cruisin’ on the seven seas
A pirate of my loving needs
I’ll never go down, never go down

So let’s get it up
Let’s get it up, get it right up
Let’s get it up, right to the top
Let’s get it up, right now

Loose wires cause fires
Getting tangled in my desires
So screw him up and plug him in
Then switch it on and start all over again

I’m gonna get it up
Never gonna let it up, no
Ticking like a time bomb, ooh, yeah
Blowing out the fuse box
I’ll never go down, never go down

So let’s get it up
Let’s get it up, get it up, oh, oh
Let’s get it up, right to the top
Let’s get it up, right now

Get it up
Come on, Ang
Wail

Oh, let’s get it up, c’mon
Let’s get it up, hey, get it, get it
Let’s get it up, switch it on, start it
Let’s get it up, oh, yeah, yeah
C’mon, let’s get it up, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, ooh
Let’s get it up, oh, yeah
Let’s get it up, oh
Let’s get it up

Get it up
Get it up
Get it up
Right up, haha
