Released in 1987, “Sign ‘O’ The Times” was the title track from Prince’s ambitious double album of the same name. Written, arranged, produced and performed by Prince, the song marked a striking departure from the romantic and funk-driven material that had characterised much of his earlier work. Its minimalist production and socially observant lyrics revealed a darker, more reflective side of the artist.
