Level 42 – Running In The Family

Released in 1987, “Running In The Family” was the title track from Level 42’s seventh studio album and one of the band’s most distinctive recordings. Written by Mark King, Phil Gould and Wally Badarou, the song combined the group’s sophisticated jazz-funk musicianship with a more accessible pop-rock sound.

The song takes a humorous yet thoughtful look at family relationships and the idea that certain characteristics, habits and behaviour can be passed from one generation to another. Its story follows a rebellious childhood experience, with the narrator looking back at the similarities between himself, his siblings and their father.
